On Friday night we were super busy with unpacking and didn't have time to cook dinner, so when 9pm rolled around, we figured we should probably order something in. We googled Chinese food and came across "China King." It clearly had the best reviews and we ordered from them. After requesting their free delivery service, we looked up their location and realized it was pretty far--but they seemed so happy to come to our apartment building. We felt bad. But we soon found out why: 124 of these flyers on all of the doors of our building but ours!
On Saturday morning, Ryan got up early and got an oil change for the car. When he got home, he woke me up with breakfast in bed. He even warmed them up before giving them to me!
Ryan had been in New York a good six weeks before I joined him and had the opportunity to scope out the ward scene here. When choosing an apartment, the Westchester 1st Ward played a pretty good part in the decision. Ryan immediately felt at home and welcomed his first Sunday. As soon as we got back from the wedding, we got emails from the Bishop's secretary asking if we'd come meet with the Bishop our first Sunday. We both thought that the Bishop was just wanting me meet me and get to know us, so we obliged. Upon arriving, we both instantly received callings.
Ryan got called to be the Venture Scout/High Adventure Leader.
I got called to teach the Valiant B class in Primary (8-9 year olds).
Today was my first time teaching this class, and I was a little nervous. I've taught Primary before but never to this age group. As soon as we got in class, I knew they were going to be a handful- two children were on the floor wrestling and another was in a cupboard for the first five minutes. We got through the lesson and played Simon Says for a good 25 minutes. They really liked me.
When we got to Singing Time with the rest of the Primary, my class was actually being really reverent and following directions from the other leaders. I was impressed.
The children were asked to draw a picture together that would describe the lyrics of the song they were learning. The lyrics went, "I may in Father's temple claim blessings promised me," and two kids from my class raised their hands with an idea of what to draw. James and Caroline thought it best to draw a person with a cloud above his head and the word "blessings" falling on him.
James started drawing the person and Caroline drew the clouds. They continued drawing as the teacher started talking about the next line in the song. James started drawing red lines all over the face of the person he was drawing. When the teacher noticed, she asked what he was doing. He responded, "The blessings are hitting him so hard he has cuts all over his face now."
It made sense.
Anyway, this is what I made to break our fast. It was amazing and easy Mac and Cheese. And it was made in a crockpot! Check out the recipe here.
And banana bread for dessert.
