It all started with an invitation from Jen Darger, a member of our ward. A select group of people get asked to attend the Darger's bi-annual parties at their family farm in the Berkshires, MA. So when Ryan and I were asked to go from Jen Darger herself, we were extremely impressed with ourselves. We also started planning our first roadtrip together to cross off some items from our "East Coast Bucket List."
Saturday: Darger Farm- Otis, MA
We had to bring a salad and a dessert. I made a mock Sonoma Salad (yes, from the Grand Lux in Chicago--almost as good) and pumpkin cheesecake with a graham cracker crust. Obviously we needed to impress everyone there.
"Welcome to the Berkshires" sign. We had to snap a picture.
Benton Brook Farm
And square dance we did.
We seriously couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. Sunny and 75 degrees.
There was a barn concert
And a hammock.
And a tennis match.
Bounce House!
Tug of war. And a child.
We ate so many desserts and salads it was unreal.
And the fall colors were spectacular.
Ending the night chasséing.
Seriously so much fun. And Jen invited us to stay whenever we'd like. She even told us where the spare key hangs. Nailed it.
Sunday: Boston, MA
We embarked on our east to Boston. The drive was gorgeous. All the leaves were beginning to change. Another beautiful day in Massachusetts. Sunny and 84.
Basically once we got there, we dominated Boston. We walked the Freedom Trail and saw so many historical sites. Here's just a few pictures we took along the way. Ok...so maybe it's more than just a few.
We really enjoyed our time in Boston. We walked about 7 miles in total, but it was well worth it. Definitely recommend walking the Freedom Trail!
Oh, and here's our motel for the night. This place rocked. Seriously.
Monday: Boston Temple & Rhode Island.
Boston Temple, GORGEOUS. So glad it was open for Columbus day.
We love Rhode Island!! We decided on going to Newport, and it was absolutely beautiful. The town was just so charming and COVERED in mansions from the 1800's. Oh, and we can't wait to own a yacht.
Lunch: Lobster Roll and Shrimp. Our waitress told us they'd just caught and filleted cod, so we ordered some fish and chips. Ended up getting them for FREE because they were out when we initially ordered. And seriously...YUM. The best seafood ever. The restaurant was also right on the Marina, and the view was beautiful. We loved everything about it.
Just checking the listings...
A fellow Californian! Don't see that everyday on the East Coast!
Vanderbilt Summer Home
Atlantic Ocean!
Fort Adams
So excited about being right on the Atlantic Ocean.
House shaped like a Lighthouse?
Goodbye, Rhode Island. We love you.
This long weekend was unforgettable. We can't believe we live so close to all of this- about 4 hours away! We're so excited to continue crossing places off our long list.
